Optician in Ortaca, Muğla — glasses, lenses and contacts

Özge Optik is an independent optician’s shop in Ortaca, on the Muğla coast between Dalaman and Köyceğiz. We make prescription glasses, progressive (varifocal) lenses, prescription sunglasses and fit contact lenses — including for visitors and residents who arrive with a prescription from abroad.

  • UK and European prescriptions read and dispensed
  • Progressive (varifocal) lenses measured and fitted in store
  • Polarised and UV400 sunglasses, prescription tints
  • Daily, monthly, toric and coloured contact lenses

Coming from abroad

Bringing a prescription with you

A prescription written in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands contains the same optical information as a Turkish one, but the layout differs. These are the values that matter:

How to read the values on your prescription.
FieldWhat it meansWhy it matters
SPH (sphere)Short or long sight correction, in dioptresThe main power of the lens
CYL / AXISAstigmatism and its orientationBoth must be present; one without the other is unusable
ADDExtra power for readingRequired for bifocal and progressive lenses
PRISM / BASEPrismatic correctionRare, but must not be dropped if present
PDPupillary distance, in millimetresOften missing on UK prescriptions — we measure it here
An important limit: in Türkiye, as in most countries, an optician dispenses — we do not diagnose eye disease or prescribe treatment. If your prescription is old, or if you have noticed a change in your vision, see an ophthalmologist first. We will happily make lenses to a current prescription from any country.

Sun, sea and your eyes on this coast

The Muğla coast has strong sunlight for most of the year, and a large part of the light reaching your eyes near the water is reflected off the surface rather than coming directly from the sky. That horizontal glare is exactly what a polarised lens removes — which is why polarised sunglasses make a much bigger difference on a boat in Göcek or Marmaris than a simply dark tint does.

Two things worth knowing. First, a dark lens without UV protection is worse than no sunglasses at all: it widens your pupil and lets more ultraviolet in. Always look for the UV400 marking. Second, category 4 lenses — the very darkest — are not legal or safe for driving.

What we do

  • Single vision, bifocal and progressive prescription lenses
  • High-index thin lenses for strong prescriptions
  • Anti-reflective, hydrophobic and photochromic coatings
  • Prescription and non-prescription sunglasses, polarised options
  • Contact lenses with fitting guidance for first-time users
  • Repairs, adjustments and nose pad replacement — including frames bought elsewhere

Can I use a prescription from the UK or another country?

Yes. As long as the sphere (SPH), cylinder (CYL), axis and near addition (ADD) values are legible, we can make your lenses. European prescriptions sometimes omit the pupillary distance (PD) — we measure that in store, and it must be right or progressive lenses will never feel comfortable.

Do you speak English?

We serve English-speaking customers regularly and manage the technical part of the conversation — prescription values, lens options and measurements — without difficulty. For a long or detailed discussion, calling ahead helps us set aside time for you.

How long does it take to make glasses?

Standard lenses that we hold in stock can often be fitted the same day. High prescriptions, high-index thin lenses and progressive lenses are ordered and usually take a few working days. We tell you the exact timing right after measuring.

I broke my glasses on holiday. Can you help quickly?

Usually yes. Bring the broken pair — even damaged lenses can often be read on our focimeter to recover the prescription. With that, we can normally get you into a usable pair quickly.

Where exactly are you?
